Simple Tools Needed for Painting Handmade Wooden Lures

The paint booth is a cardboard box, not very high tech but it works. We are in the process of building a new paint booth that has an exhaust fan. The base unit is a range hood that was purchased at a Habitat for Humanity building materials store for $5. We are attaching some ¼” plywood to make the top, sides and base. They will be attached with hinges so the paint booth can be folded up and easily stored like a small suitcase.

To get started, we found an air brush and small compressor at a local pawn shop and they work very well. The air brush has only single stage action so we will be upgrading our air brush to a two stage air brush which will allow us to more intricate detail work.

The color paints we have been using are made by Createx. We have used the fluorescent colors, the transparent colors along with the opaque colors. If you get the primary colors and a few specialized colors, it is amazing what colors you can mix.
